A recent pavement preservation project initially looked great, but as the sealant wore off the aggregate, the original pavement markings showed up. You can see the striping contractor did not follow the specification to match the existing markings. The original low emissions image is about a foot larger than the new image. Unfortunately, any correction will mar the pavement and worsen the image appearance.
The solution is to plan ahead and acquire a set of stencils from the original striping contractor for use with future respiring projects.
To improve the chances of proper alignment after a seal coat, we will encourage the contractor to hammer PK nails into the pavement at the tips of arrows and at two locations for word stencils.
